Project 877 Kilo Class

The double-hull 877EKM diesel-electric submarine features a low noise signature that makes it ideal for a variety of missions, including attacks upon enemy submarines and surface warships. These vehicles were designed at the Rubin Central Maritime Design Bureau and assembled at the Admiral Shipyard of St. Petersburg, Russia.

Propulsion

Two diesel power plants and a main propulsion motor are at the heart of the 877EKM’s propulsion system, while the single-shaft drives a seven blade propeller. Two reserve electric motors enable transport in shallow waters.

Armament

Using 3M-54E long range missiles, the 877EKM sub features a missile system designed to attack surface ships utilizing six 533 millimeter missile tubes in the nose of the sub; the missile tubes can launch mines as well. The torpedo system is computer controlled, allowing for quick reloading between salvoes. Two side launchers allow for remote controlled launching as well. In just 15 seconds, stand-by missiles are ready to launch, while a complete reload between salvoes takes just minutes. The 3M-54E missiles boast a 220 kilometer operational range. Six Igla-1M MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense System) missiles are stored in watertight compartments
