SU-37 Terminator - a multi-functional fighter created on the basis of a multifunctional fighter SU-35. The further increase of flight characteristics of the machine was possible only in the case of installation of the engine with a vector of draft changing in flight. Works in this direction had been carried out in OKB of A.M.Liulka for some years, and tests of an experimental model were carried out in the spring of 1989 on T-10-26 by Victor Pugachev. Then on the plane only one engine was fixed. Its nozzle could change the position in a vertical plane for what the pilot switched over the toggle-switch in his cabin. After some adaptations of control systems by the plane and engines the name of the machine was changed on SU-37. On April, 2, 1996 a pilot - verifier of OKB E.I.Frolov raised the plane in the sky, and on August, 18 of the same year SU-37 for the first time was shown on an aviation holiday in Tushino in Moscow.
During flight tests plane Su-37 showed unique maneuverable opportunities. For the first time the new maneuvers connected with going on the superbig angles of attack and near-zero speed were fulfilled. The technical decisions realized in the design of a new fighter provided:
- -opportunity of deposition of forestalled impacts on any air opponent (including an undistinguished plane);

-multichannelness and algorithmic security of all information and aim systems;

-attack of the ground targets without entering in a zone of air defense of the opponent;
-
-low-level flight with fly-around and by-pass of ground obstructions;

-the automated group actions on the air and ground targets;

-counteraction to radio electronic and to optical-electronic means of the opponent;
-
-automation of all stages of flight and fighting usage.
The electronic equipment
Su-37 is equipped with a digital electrodistance control system of plane (EDSU). It is created on four-channel scheme of reservation in the dilatational channel and three-channel scheme - in channels of lateral movement. For increase of reliability all calculators of EDSU work in a parallel way. The system of automated control provides control with all steering surfaces of the plane, and also a deflexion of a vector of engines draft by means of moving the handle of plane control. Thus safety of flight is achieved by automatic restriction of overloads of the plane depending on flight weight and flight modes. There is a mode of an automatic going out from a corkscrew. Installation of a new complex of the onboard equipment with increased power consumption required an increase in capacity of electro-and a hydropower. In comparison with plane Su-27 new electrogenerators and hydropumps were fixed. On the plane Su-37 a lateral handle of control and motionless strain-gauge Arm of Engine Control (RUD) were fixed.
Board Radio Electronic Equipment (BREO) of the plane includes the systems using elements of an artificial intellect and provides forestalled defeat of the air targets (including undistinguished) on the distances guaranteeing impossibility of mating impact of the opponent. All stages of flight, including fighting application on the air purposes, attacks of ground objects without entering a zone of Air Defense of the opponent, counteraction to the radio and opto-electronic means of Radio Electronic Fight (REF) are automated. According to the information going from navigating system, System of Automated Control (SAU) solves problems of flight according to a route with a fly-round of the programmed intermediate points of a route, return to the air station, prelanding maneuvering and landing approach up to altitude of 60 m. There is a mode of automatic control of the flight at extremely small altitude, with fly-around and by-pass of ground obstructions.
SU-37 is equipped with a complex including Radar-tracking pulse-Doppler Radar-tracking station (RLS) with a motionless phased antenna crate and RLS of the back review. The improved optic-electronic aim system of a fighter includes an infra-red imaging, combined with a laser range finder - target destinationor. Detection, the identification and automatic support of the several air purposes on the big range simultaneously is provided. Optic-detection system with RLS and improved helmet sight of the pilot are united into a whole complex. The equipment of the automatic protected system of data exchange about targets is installed on the plane. It allows coordinating actions of the several fighters carrying out a group fight better. The complex of defense includes optical gauges of the warning about attacking missiles of the opponent, station of radio engineering investigation of new generation, active systems of suppression which work in optical and radar-tracking ranges, and also means of producing of passive radar-tracking and IR-handicaps.
The plane Su-37 has a new informational-control field of a cabin of a pilot with four large-format liquid crystal color (unlike SU-35, where they are monochrome) multifunctional indicators and a wide-angle indicator on a windshield. In the indicators liquid crystal matrixes are used. The communication equipment includes radio stations UKV-and the UV-range, the equipment of the telecode protected communication and also a system of satellite communication.
