Strategic Missile Forces is a branch of Russian Armed Forces and is a main component of Strategic Nuclear Forces. Main focus for Russian Missiles Forces is to counter balance and protect Russia from possible acts of aggressions. Its main objective is massive retaliation in the face of an attack. This doctrine was first introduced during Soviet Union times but is still valid in today's Russia.

Main types of missile operated under Missile Forces are:

• Ground-based intercontinental
• Intermediate-range
• Medium-range nuclear missiles

In 1997 Missile Forces underwent major re-organization and formed new Strategic Missile Troops forces. Main components of this newly created military branch are:

• Strategic Missiles Forces
• Military Space Forces
• Space Missile Defense Forces

Currently, Missile Forces experiencing rebirth with new missile system introduced into armed forces. Specifically "Topol" and "Bulava" both are the same class of inter-ballistic missiles firs is land based and second is submarine based system. Main advantage of the "Topol" missile is its capability to change trajectory while in flight. This capability makes missile shield implemented by USA useless.
